Head Planter.....has room for hair in top

Posted by ponderinstuff oregon (My Page) on

I'm not sure if this post belongs here, but I'm hoping maybe someone has seen this in a catalog. I saw it in a picture online but can't find the source.

It is a fairly large planter with a great face in a gray stone...at least that is what it looks like. The top of head is open for grass to make a spikey hairstyle. If you've seen it will you please pass it on? TIA

ponderinstuff...do you mean the Chia head? A relative of the Chia pet? They show up every year during the Christmas shopping season in chain drug stores and discount stores...I'm not sure which big chains you have in Oregon. You could give google a try.

This may not be the one. I have seen others. And this does'nt look like a spikey hair-do would do it justice.
Please respond to let us know if we are getting close.

LOL...tangerine, it isn't a chia pet, but I could see why you might think that. Thanks for the try cactusfreak, but that wasn't it. I did actually find the link that I saw the face in. It is in the container gardening pictures. I'm not sure if the link takes you directly or not.

I emailed the company and was told that the planter was purchased at a local art fair. They had no farther information.

I know I've seen some, I believe at the Christmas Tree Shop in Spring Valley NY, which doesn't help you, since they're only in the northeast. These aren't the ones I had seen, but I did find these online, at Parks.

Hmmm, well, this is not grey stone, but perhaps could be painted with one of those "faux stone" spraypaints?

I got one of these awhile ago. She's not medusa like in my opinion - far too serene, LOL! But she's pretty cool. Stands about a foot tall, with head tipped back as though looking skyward.

I filled the neck cavity with a filler (styrofoam peanuts), and some charcoal on the bottom as there is no drainage hole. I dipped a plastic pot in boiling water (do this with a metal tongs, and wear oven mitts!) and then pushed it into the "head cavity" to make it fit nicely. Works pretty well.

Scroll down to the medusa head planter. If the link does not work, its Secret Garden Rare Plants Online, in the garden accessories section.

Hope this helps!

That planter sounds really neat, maybe try looking at a cement statuary place?
Folks, when you post a link, put it in the optional link URL box, that way we will get a clickable link, instead of having to cut and paste.
I wonder if you could make a head planter with hypertufa? I'd like one of those big Easter Island heads- with grass coming out the top!
Yeah, you could do it with hypertufa: scroll down the attached posting to see a picture of an EI head.

My first entry went *POOF*?

Check out this site:

And search under pottery for the - Eleanor Planter - and then by state to determine nearby retailers.

Also, eBay for 'head vase'...occasionally something suitable for outdoor use gets listed that way.

I know exactlyl what you are tlaking about. If you put Easter Island head planter in google it will come up. It is a head that has sort of 1 big eyebrow across, a large nose and a closed mouth. I just bought one from my Kroger store today. It is not cement, but that light weight plastic stuff... Yes, I would have preffered cement, but at least I finally found one. It was $35. I live in the Houston are... west side suburburbs. I don't know if all the Krogers sell them, but the one I got it from is the one at Hwy 6 south and Beechnut area. They had 3 left after I got mine.

OK, it's now going on 5 years later after the original post. I'm sure the poster has already found what she wants or gave up! :) However, for some of you that may be searching for a cool head planter like I was, which brought me to this site, here is a link for the coolest of what I've seen of head planters. I'd love to have 4 or 5 grouped together! (Stonefacecreations.com)

Check Dave's Garden website for a member in Port Charlotte, Fla. I think her username is KAT and she has several of them that she plants into. Even puts sunglasses on the male head, and dresses the female head up with jewelry, etc. She may post on the tropical or container gardening forum. She is a home builder and her home is beautiful.

RE: stone head planter

The lady's username is KATG and she post on the container gardening forum on the Dave's garden website. She is very good about answering emails and sharing information. Take a look at her landscaping inside and out and her home. It is beautiful! You can sure get some great ideas from her.
