Hydrangeas

I have a hydrangea that is an area where a covered porch has been built. It's not done well since, of course because it's not getting enough sun. I need to transplant it, but am afraid I waited too long. I realize now I should have done it in late fall before the ground began to freeze. My question is, should I go ahead and transplant it in spring once the ground has thawed out, assuming it won't bloom this year, or should I cut it back and wait until next fall to transplant?

Thanks!
