'must have' catalogs

I was wondering what your favorite catalogs for winter browsing are. Personally I can't imagine not getting Parks Seed or Stokes Seed catalogs. As for other types of plants, there is Wayside (also owned by Parks), Plants Delight, Singing Springs Nursery, Heronswood, Oakes Daylilies, Roycroft Daylilies, Heirloom Roses, Brent and Becky's Bulbs, Logees Greenhouse etc. I may have left off more then a few that I receive, but I'm always looking for more. Which ones do you all get?

I love Wayside because it has some unusual stuff.

Also Dutch Gardens, especially the spring bulb issue that comes in the summer.

Schreiner's Iris Lover's Catalog is my very favorite. Lots of information and beautiful pictures.

Unfortunately Singing Springs has closed...I'm heartbroken because Pam Baggett had such a good eye for unusual plants and had trialed them for our hot humid summers.

Also Heronswood was sold...don't think it will be the same at all.

But to close on the upbeat, Niche Gardens is great, has lots of native plants. Select Seeds and Pinetree and Territorial all good seed sources. Lazy S's Farms doesn't have printed catalog but great online site and I had good service last year for wellpacked healthy well-rooted plants...my first order but I intend to order again this year. And always and forever Plant Delights!!! josh

Geeze! I can't tell you how disappointed I am about Singing Springs. I had an eerie feeling about it though so I took cuttings of a great Coleus I got from them last fall instead of just re-ordering. Any reason why they closed?

Pam Baggett has a letter to us fanatics ~grin~ on her website, and also a great tutorial on overwintering and proagating tropicals...I've saved it as I don't know how long her site will stay online.

I too was bitterly disappointed but fortunately have been able to overwinter all Coleus, Alternanthera, Dichondra, etc., plus a few like Thalia are hardy. My very favorite is Centaurea 'Colchester White'...what a great lacy white foliage which is great for arrangements...and thrives in our humid heat...even looks good all winter though it is more a pale grey-green though still handsome. Gosh, I'm sure going to miss that catalog!! josh

I went for years looking for Duranta Erecta Aura and not finding it mail order. Pam had it and it was fool proof. Not even remotely hardy in my zone though. Now she's gone and RATS! it's gone too. I'm familiar with most of the catalogs out there but they are almost always perennials. Pam offered a unique collection of semi-hardy and tender plants in large sized containers at reasonable prices and expertly shipped. Double darn!
