Rooting Lantana...

JessiesGarden

Two years ago I bought a topiary-style lanata tree in the fall on close-out (the nursery said it was considered an annual). Said I could try to over-winter in indoors. Sure enough, it lived and needed trimming because it was out of control, so on a whim, I just stuck the trimmings in a glass of water and most of them rooted, resulting in 30+ plants and 2 new potted topiaries. Problem is, ever since, I can't get a cutting to survive to save my soul (taken from the topiaries). I tried the water in the glass last year, and even tried rooting hormone in potting soil this year, nothing's taken. Any suggestions, or do their ability to reproduce this way diminish. If I break down and buy more lantana from the nursery, can I take cuttings from it, and what is the best method - dumb luck only seems to work for so long! Thanks for the help, Kathleen
