Cleaning out beds, getting ready for spring,WEEDS!

Posted by hapyfrustrated (My Page) on

After having my house under remodel and new construction this past year, my beds were ignored, just did not have the time. Now, it is time to start cleaning them out, they are over run with weeds. I know how to clean the weeds out, but does anyone have ideas as to how I should prepare the ground/dirt before I bring in new dirt/mulch? When I brought in mulch to top my front beds last spring, it was over night and new different weeds were all over the place. I am tired of this and need some pointers, thanks!

Depends on you plant spacing, you could use a weed barrier but when you get done, you probably wished you pulled weeds. Costco has it in the spring. Grey in color. Compost might be good to mix in with your existing soil, make the soil more friable, easier to pull weeds. What kind of mulch did you bring in the had different kinds of weeds? Chipper mulch might be the best kind, 2" deep, should keep the weeds down. Call an arborist and see if they are trimming trees in your area, it could be cheaper then buying bags at a big box.
