What perennials are blooming now?

Here on the NC/SC border, I have a tiny front yard with a direct west exposure - shady in the morning, very hot in the afternoon. It will be dominated by the lantana when it gets going (it really is too big, but my husband loves it).

It's sadly bare at the moment, though. I have space for plants up to about three feet if they are thin and for wide plants under two feet tall. A blooming groundcover to hide the dirt would be nice, but nothing invasive since this is a townhome.

I am a brand new gardner, so I need some easy recommendations. Please, no pink plants - my husband, again.

Up the road from you up here in the triad my grape hyacinth-purple and chiandoxa(sp)-blue and white have been blooming for about 4 weeks now. Yesterday my Frittalaria(sp)-orange, just started blooming.

Thanks, JP, those seem like just the sort of flowers I am looking for.

Anybody else have suggestions? My yard looks just like it did in February - so sad.

Brunnera, forget-me-nots,muscari,wind anemones,wild rue anemones, azaelas,spirea,trillium,species tulips,foamflower tiarella,corydalis, polemonium.

Brenda, Your Azaleas are blooming already? Mine are just starting to get their new leaves and it will be about a month before they bloom. Guess it all depends on the variety and I have no idea what mine are.
