Annuals with Carolina Jasmine

I'm in middle Alabama and have been told that a Carolina Jasmine is a good way to cover up a chain link fence (about 5' high). Is this good advice? Also, would it be worth mixing in some annuals with the Carolina Jasmine (or other perennial) to add more color or is this is unnecessary?

Carolina Jasmine (Jessamine) spreads quickly up a trellis, fence, or the ever-famous mailbox and it has beautiful and fragrant yellow flowers in the early spring. Unfornunately, for the rest of the summer they are nothing spectacular, so I overplant mine with morning glories and moon flower on the side of my porch so that there is some color in the summertime. It seems to take a year to get established, then takes off!
