Depends on what the rose variety is. 'Knock Out' roses are plant it and forget it roses as far as having to spray for disease is concerned. But no rose is made out of plastic. You will need to water them regularily, fertilize them occasionally, deadhead some of them and winter protect the top bud union of your tree rose come late fall in your zone.

The issue with rose trees is the graft. The long shaft sometimes gets diseases (they have to remove any bud eyes from this shaft so that it doesn't get leaves or canes) and sometimes that leaves a wound that invites fungus. Also, they do better as pots as they can get cold damage in the winter that ground planted roses don't. If you keep them in a pot, you can bring them in when it gets really cold. Also they should have support in case you get a windy storm that can damage the tall cane.
