Gardenias are very unhappy when grown inside. They just don't adapt well to the typical indoor environment. Misting does absolutely nothing to improve a plant's lot in life, by the way.

If you're needing to water every day, then something is wrong with the potting medium. Or perhaps it 'seems' dry but really isn't. A quick unpotting would allow you to check on the condition of the roots and root ball.

Other than that, all I can suggest is that you get your plant outside as soon as possible and allow it a nice long season in the elements.

rhizo_1 - not trying to hijack the thread, but where do Gardenias seem to grow better in the Carolinas? I've had them in full sun and now in dappled sun with more shade, and it seemed they did better in full sun. I know they're supposed to be very finicky, but geessshh!

I lived in SC for ages and saw many huge gardenias in full, blazing sun though they seemed to look a bit happier if they had some shade in the heat of the afternoon. That was in the Beaufort/Hilton Head area.

Mine are in full sun in central AL - do fine, although i have noticed that the leaves get slightly yellow at times. i think that is a sign it needs iron....anyway, Here's a pic - this one is slightly thinner now, due to my pruning - i had to get under the bush to start thinning the other stuff!
