Planting barefoot cherry tree

I have a barefoot dwarf cherry tree. Because the site for it to go in is full sun most of the day and the temp has jumped to the mid 80s I have planted in a large pot and expect to have it in a mostly shady location until the temps go down. Then ill plant it in the full sun site.
Do you think this is a good strategy?
