help with dying dogwood

I planted a 2" diameter Kousa in my newly landscaped yard. It is planted on the east side of my house next to a sidewalk. It is shaded in the afternoon.

I thought I was getting enough water to it but seemingly overnight the leaves have curled up and are all turning brown. It was orginally very healthy - balled roots - purchased from a reputable nursery. I have to assume it's the very hot weather that has done the damage.

My question, is there any hope it will come back next spring or should I go ahead and remove it - replant with something less drought sensitive??
