Worm bins -- will they work in Houston?

Posted by roxpiper Zone 9 (My Page) on

I also brought a worm bin with me from Australia. It has three stackable bins with legs and a lid and a spout for draining the worm juice. I haven't run into anyone who uses one here in Houston, so I'm guessing that it just gets too hot here?

Thanks!

Roxanne

I have one here in NW Florida where it is pretty hot also. It's homemade, just a bucket with drainage holes really. I think yours should be fine. Just keep it in the shade and keep it moist.

I keep mine in the garage so it is in the shade but also so it is close to my kitchen door to give my pets all the kitchen goodies.I too have the can o worms from Australia.I am concerned about what you call worm juice. I read that unless you filter it back through 3 to five times it can kill plants .I feel if that were true we would all be using it for round up. Some vermiculture sites say worm tea is only made with clean pure water and worm castings and call what comes from the spigot Leachate.I am still trying to investigate myself.I just do not want to kill all my plants so I am cautious. Let me know how you do.
