Evergreen screen for sandy soil???

Hello,

We recently purchased a TN river lot with a sandy beach. There is a 8 foot vertical ridge where the high ground drops off to the beach and is quite unsitely. I was thinking about planting some Emerald Green Arborvitae on the beach at the base of the ridge to hide the vines and weeds that help keep the ridge from eroding. Is this a good choice? I was also thinking that by planting a hedge/screen at the base, these plants would anchor the sand and act as a buffer against the ridge, preventing the water from undercutting it when it rises in the winter. Any suggestions/criticisim would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
