Can Bouganvilla be planted in zone 9?

| Hi all, I planted two bougainvillea vines last year and did not protect them from our light freeze and one froze. My giant one in the corner did not live but the smaller vine is making a comeback and gives me hope.
They are planted in prime places and will be protected from our light frost next year. Does anyone have any tips about growing them in the ground?
My friend is trying to make a cutting from her giant vine without success. Any tips on this? Thanks in advance. |

Hi I read your page and see you are in Louisiana. You also seem to enjoy alot of things we do beside gardening. I am in zone 9b and averyone here has bougie fever! Its hard to kill a bougie unless you fertilize it or water to much or plant in the shade. We don't get much frost but I know if the bougie is bigger he can withstand alot more. Some here grow into the trees. They also thrive against a Hot concrete wall!Hope that helps. |

| yes I live in zone 9 and we have them growing wild near my ex roommates house and they dont do anything to them except trim them back and they water them from time to time . I guess that is the way to take care of them cause they are thriving . Does that help ? good luck to you . |
