Kind of Gross, but does anyone know what this is? Help!

So we just moved to VA from the west coast and have seen piles of this mysterious gunk on the rocks if our front walk and in our flower beds. Does anyone know what it is? We are wondering if it is poo or vomit from some wild animal or what? It's kind of orangish in color. We are wondering what it is and how to ward agains this in the future. Any thoughts?

It's just a type of fungus like a mushroom. It might be the one called "dog vomit". Just wash it away if it bothers you, but it is just part of a natural process.

Here is a link that might be useful: Info here

Yes, it's one of the slime molds....which are not fungi or molds at all. These organisms are not at all harmful in any way. There's no way to 'prevent ' this slime mold, short of living in a sterile vacuum.

Lots of that going around with the rain we have been having.

"Eases diseases there's fungus among us."
