Southern peas not flowering!

I planted red ripper peas, it seems like eons ago, and I have yet to see a single flower. The plants are impressive, very health and very large! But I'm about to pull them up since they aren't producing. I know this is a later variety but it has been too long! What's going on?

There's a beans/peas/other legumes forum here on Garden Web. I found a 2009 thread on Red Rippers via Google
and they did mention that as with most peas(nitrogen fixing) better to lay off the fertilizer because it pushes
vine growth rather than flowering and bean production.

Go look on Google and you'll find the thread I'm referring to and the specific forum you need.

They FINALLY have a few flowers. I haven't fertilized but you wouldn't know it by looking at them. There is a good sized crepe myrtle near my garden and the vines reached the top. I'm going to need a ladder to harvest.

I grow Red Ripper every year and find they start producing heavy toward the end of August and go on till frost
