one of the toughest plants for a site like that is lantana.
for hanging baskets or the front of a mixed planter, look for the trailing type. the upright forms can get very large.
water will be crucial for container plants in that much sun and heat.
million bells (calibrachoa) are good for long bloom season and take heat well.
a traditional favorite of mine is old-fashioned petunias for bright color and fragrance.

Agree with above suggestions. Also for pots: pentas, zinnias, sunflowers of all sizes (these are annuals). Also hibiscus and mandevilla, which are tropicals and treated as annuals or brought in for winter. The Mandevilla will need a trellis. In hanging baskets also try verbena, black eye susan vine, and sweet potato vine (I think that's right)which comes in dark purple and lime (chartreuse). The main point is to use a good lightweight potting mix, possibly one with the water-retention crystals in it, and water often. Probably once a day, if not twice in the real hot months like july and august. Your porch will look wonderful!

Try some moonflower vine from seed. Also, hyacinth bean. Those are annuals, and will climb the supports to shade your porch very nicely.

Lantana is a great plant, in the ground or in hanging baskets.

Another plant I discovered accidentally, because it has naturalized in so many places, is PURSLANE. I think it is a member of the portulaca family. I discovered it while tending the garden of my church, in an area where most things were wilting or outright dying. It didn't look like a weed to me, so I let it grow. Nice plant for a basket, so I looked at Lowes and discovered they sold baskets of purslane. The ones volunteering in my church beds was all yellow flowering, but the others I bought were peach colored. They can really take the afternoon sun and don't wilt if you forget to water them for a couple of days.
It's worth trying at least ONE basket of them. They also seed readily, and you can save the seeds for next year.

If you Google "purslane" I think you will be surprised to learn they are high in omega nutrients, taste peppery, and are considered safe to eat. I personally haven't eaten any, but I will try it next chance I get.
