Pinwheel Jasmine

I live in Miami and I have some pinwheel jasmine planted in front of my house. They were planted one year ago. The leaves have turned very pale. There is one plant in the shade that still has nice dark green leaves. I read that they can become clorotic planted too close to the house because the cement causes the soil to be akaline. I fertilized about a month ago with palm fertilizer. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

Try fertilizing with a more acidic fertilizer!!! Try some "Miracle-gro, Mir-acid". It is a liquid soluble fertilizer that will give your jasmine a quick shot of acid to help the plant absorb nutrients in the soil. Try doing this once every 10 days! Also, make sure that you get some kind of long term soil acidifyer in there too. Try a granular fertilizer like "Holly Tone" from espoma. It will help drop the pH enough to help green them up! You don't want to go toooo heavy, just follow the recommended doses! good luck!!!

RE: Pinwheel Jasmine

I'm having serious issues with mine, as well. I have 3 planted in a bed that is right in front of our front (brick) stoop. I suspect this makes the dirt a little unaccomodating, but I can take care of the acidity.

I'm so new to this, however -- I'm worried that the leaves on one plant turn yellow at the end with a brown spot that grows from the leaf tip. I also have tiny ants up and down the plant. One of the three looks fantastic -- the other two are not handling it well. One branch has gone completely dead -- no growth and the branch looks almost desert-like.

Anyway -- any ideas? Other than making sure I get the soil to a proper level of acidity, is that all I am seeing? I'm worried the brown spot is something worse than simple yellowing leaves...
