 o
experience with Colchicum Cilicicum, a fall crocus

I haven't been able to find anything about this. Parks boasts that Colchicum Cilicicum is "A native of Turkey, it can tolerate hot, dry summers."

Any testimonials?

Thanks.

RE: experience with Colchicum Cilicicum, a fall crocus

I have not personally grown colchicum, because I read that they bloom in the fall without any foliage, then the foliage comes up later and lasts way into the spring and is unsightly before it finally rots away. Daffodils are enough to deal with.
That being said, I am going to try crocus goulimyi this year after reading about it. It has variegated foliage when it blooms in the fall, dies back in the winter, and is supposed to naturalize in zone 7. I ordered it from Brent and Beckys' bulbs. We'll see.

I have grown an unknown Colchicum species or hybrid for many years, in a large pot on my patio. They are an early blooming variety, beginning in late August-early Sept.
In that environment, they are troublefree and multiply nicely. My attempt to grow them in the garden was a failure. They bloomed the first year, but thereafter, produced foliage only and finally disappeared after several years.
You might check WFF (link below) for better pricing. B &B & Bulbmeister were cheaper, but they are sold out for this year.
