Is it too late to plant grass?

Hi,
I've heard several people in my area say fall is the best time to plant. But, my local grass man said he didn't think it would give it enough time to root. I've wondered if I plant it now... would it give it enough time to root before winter? I don't want to rush and plant if it's not a good idea...we can wait. What's your advice? My yard has full sun - no trees.

I think we even plant grass in the Fall in the North. I don't think it is late, we don't have first frost in 7a until around mid November.

What kind of grass? It makes a big difference.
