Kill Ants on Plants

Posted by cajungal328 Louisiana (My Page) on

Hi again,

As I was examining my elephant ears that I downsized yesterday, and cutting off some damaged leaves, I noticed that there are alot of ants on the leaves. What insectisides are safe to apply to plants and to the soil below? I don't want to injure this plant any more than I already have.

Thanks,
Heather

RE: Kill Ants on Plants

There is no reason to kill ants that are on your plants unless you see them doing some kind of damage. Plant damage from ants is not unheard of. Your best recourse, however, is not to apply pesticides to the plant, but to use a BAIT (like Amdro) to tempt the ants. They will take the baited product to the nest, feed it to the rest of the inhabitants and eventually the queen, and voila!
