Nope....no magic to stop them.... plus not only do they grow from the roots, they grow from the seed that comes of the crepe.

That's what they do. They want to be a multi-trunked tree. About all you can do is keep popping them off.

I believe that topping them (what many people do to force new growth at the top and which for some reason people think is a required chore) can prompt the plant to send out suckers more vigorously.
