Canna's are extreemly durable creatures. All you have to do is dig it up and you will see large tubers (roots that look like fresh ginger as it is in the ginger fmaily). When you get all the large roots you will see all kinds of new shoots on them. Just break the large roots appart and make sure you have at least one new shoot on each piece. Thats pretty much it. To let you know how durable they are, when I was a kid in Central MS we had some that we used to cut down with a bush-hog every year and they just kept comming back. Even now with me in Southern Spain I have several varieties all over my yard and cut them back to the ground every winter when they start looking ratty and they keep comming back, usually within a couple weeks! Another indestructible Canna story coming up. We moved into this house in Jan.1991. There was a clump of hideous orange and red canna by a big oak. We hacked it out for a couple of years and finally it disappeared. We cut the big oak down last year. The ground got all stirred up and guess what resprouted after over 10 years? That's right! Those horrid, ugly Cannas!!

I would love to have some other ones. I think the big pink ones are lovely.
