How to winter a potted Sago Palm

Posted by cs6000 Okla. (My Page) on

I have a sago palm in a large pot in the yard. Wife will not let me bring it inside house, because it is poisonous to dogs.
Will it be OK in the garage over the winter if I water it? Won't get much light in there. We live in Tulsa OK, have several hard freezes during the winter.

Thanks for any advice.

Buy one of those halogen shop lights from the big box home stores or auto store. These are on a stand with two or three halogen lights. These will provide much needed light and heat.

It will be ok but don't over water it. If you can pull it outside when the weather is nice it will help it.
I don't know about using a halogen shop light, the cold will not hurt it just hard freeze if left outside. Shop light does not equal a grow light.

We have 2 sagos in pots that we keep in the garage during the winter. Hubby waters them lightly about every 2 weeks. They seem to do great this way for us.
