chickens around Athens or Atlanta?

Does anyone have some advice? I am considering 3 red star hens that are available to me, they are young and perhaps a month away from full feather. How does one care for them going into winter? Any great coop ideas? If you are in Athens where do you go for feed and supplies?

You might want to try the Farm Life Forum for some help. Better, make a call or visit to your local extention office. They're big on poultry issues!

Be sure to check with the City Fathers. I had some beautiful laying hens until a neighbor reported me and I was forced to eliminate them from my yard. All but one neighbor loved them but it only takes one to spoil the apple.

Some people do not mind having chickens next door if you smile and offer them fresh eggs once in a while! I agree with the advice to check with the extension office. Did you end up getting the chickens?

Oh, this makes me want to get chickens again...I love the idea of just letting them roam free.....but you have to watch out for them so they don't become prey to other animals!! And keep them shut up safely at night...

My hubby likes Guineas (sp?) but they are a little too noisy. lol
