Favorite Books and Magazines

I was just at the library the other day looking for some of the books that were recommended by folks who posted to welcome me to NC. I have asked for some books to be sent to my local branch as they were not currently in, but I did find some gems just browsing the shelves.

One I found and am enjoying a great deal is called:
Earthly Delights Gardeing by the Seasons the Easy Way by Margot Rochester a Carolina Gardener.

Doing a bit of a web search for her name I found also that she writes for "Carolina Gardener" magazine.

I also found at the library another book called the "North Carolina Gardener's Guide" by Toby Bost.

The hard part about shopping at the library is you have to RETURN the books someday. ;-)

Does anyone else here have any favorites to reccomend?

Mary T newbie to NC.

RE: Favorite Books and Magazines

One of my favorite books is 'The Southern Gardener's Book of Lists' by Lois Trigg Chaplin. A great way to find plant ideas based on the conditions you are facing (sunny, shady, wet, dry) or the characteristics you want (evergreen, fragrant, dwarf). Lois was previously a garden editor at Southern Living. I also recommend the gardening books by Southern Living.

My favorite magazine is The American Gardener. This is the publication of the American Horticultural Society (AHS). You can only get it by subscription. As a member, you also have the ability to read issues dating back to 2001 in pdf format on their website.

Here is a link that might be useful: AHS

That Margot Rochester book is my absolute favorite. I wish she lived next door to me.

Totally--what a great neighbor that would be!!

I've been savoring it in little bites and I love it too. I think I may need to find my own copy as I got this at the library.

She gardens the way I always think of it too. :)
very inspiring. maryt
