What is this shrub called?

| I friend of mine has this shrub in her yard that attracts LOTS of hummingbirds every year but she doesn't know what it's called, the whole plant has a purplish/bronze color to it. I have looked everywhere and can't find a name for it.

I'd post this on the Name that Plant forum.

I don't think it's Mexican petunia, this plant gets up to 5-6ft tall. I thought it may be a common southern shrub, but maybe not. I'll post it on the 'plant ID' forum.

Looks like it is a type of Ruellia afterall. Thanks louisianagal.

That's what it is. It is pretty, but can become invasive (at least in my zone 8a). It is also called Mexican Petunia.

Yes this can become very invasive. Just watch for the seedlings the seed pod "pops" open and sends the seeds flying all over the garden. The plants are very hardy as well. I probably have seeds or small seedlings poping up that I can send you. Just let me know. Brenda Harvey, LA
