Blood oranges

I live in central Louisiana. I have a blood orange tree that I planted 4 years ago. It is about 6 feet tall, but it hasn't produced a single orange or blossom. It has gorgeous foliage. Is it supposed to be cross pollinated or something? I fertilized it this fall for the first time after another gardener recommended it. We do have a lot of clay in our soil. Anybody having success with blood oranges? Louisiana gardeners, I am especially keen to hear from you. I really want to get this finicky citrus producing, then on to lime and lemon trees!

Try fertilizers with higher second and third numbers such as 2-10-10. If the tree is healthy, you just have to wait for it to bloom. I can get some stubborn trees to bloom by "beating" the trunks with a pipe, but with citrus that may introduce disease. Just be patient. Paul.

I'm in South La. The blood orange must be slow producing citrus. My brothers tree is about 6 feet tall, 4 years old and this was the first year for it to bear. It only made about 6 fruit. The fruit were big and had some of the red coloration inside. Hopefully it will increase production next year. I would be patient and keep caring for it and hope it bears next year. Also, it's not recommended to fertilize citrus in the Fall. As far as limes and lemons your a little far north. I think limes are the most cold sensitive of the citrus. If you can go to your County Agent they have a good flyer on citrus in La from LSU. Good luck.
