Bottom Drainage for Raised Grow Boxes

Posted by skagit_goat_man_ WA (My Page) on

I have an old SFG book form '87 and have ordered the new one. I have a question about the "bottom" of the grow boxes that are up on sawhorses. Do they need to have drainholes in the bottom?
Thanks, Tom

The newer book calls for one 1/4 in. hole in each square foot, plus one in each corner. It's important to get rid of excess water. If you're worried about soil getting out, you could line the box with landscape fabric.

Here is a link that might be useful: What's Growing On?
