Alpine Strawberries Watery and Tasteless

After reading last year about the amazing taste of alpine strawberries, I bought some seeds for the "Alexandria" type and grew some of my own.

They grew very well, and produced a nice handful of berries by the end of the summer.

The problem was that the berries had no taste, and were mushy and watery.

I know these must be real alpines because they do not have runners. I am pretty sure I picked them when ripe, because they came off the stems very easily.

What have I done wrong with these plants?

Thank you for any advice,

Lois in PA
