Lateral space for dripline irrigation in square foot garden?

Hello!

I'm pretty new to square foot gardening and am trying to get things ready for the spring. The beds with Mel's Mix (1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 peat, 1/3 compost) are all ready to go and I'm working on the dripline irrigation now. I've purchased the brown 1/4-in tubing with embedded emitters that drip at 1/2 GPH. I have rolls that have emitters spaced at 6" and rolls at 12".

My question is...what is the ideal lateral spacing of the driplines? And should I use the ones with emitters spaced at 6" or 12"?

Due to the layout of my yard my beds are all long but narrow, ranging from 2' wide to 5'. I don't think that would factor into the lateral spacing, but just to give the whole picture.

Thanks in advance for any tips!
