Square Foot Gardening

Garden Plan

This is my first year doing a square foot garden. The plot is an old vegetable garden that has very poor soil. As soon as the snow melts we will till in all the leaves, grass and hay that was put on the garden last fall and build the beds out of 6" cedar boards. Please take a look at my plan and let me know your thoughts!

Quick thoughts would be that your lettuce would shade your carrots in the west a bit. However, your tomatoes to the west will shade your entire lettuce bed. That may be intentional, depending on how hot your summers get in Minneapolis. You may consider moving the tomatoes to the lettuce bed on the north side next to the peas. Just a thought.
