Succession planting

Ok, I understand the concept of this, start with an early plant, as it is finishing, pull it out and put in a summer plant and use the same space. Got it. I just can't see how it can work with say peas. I want to plant some snow peas. Days to harvest are about 59. Plant 5 weeks before last frost, so for me that is going to be pretty soon. I am using this whole 4x4 box for peas, and would like to plant my sweet corn in it after the peas are done. But plant sweet corn after last frost according to everything I've read. So my peas will only be in the ground for 5 weeks or 35 days when I am supposed to be planting my corn, or basically anything else I want to plant. Am I thinking wrong here? Do I just plant in the boxes while the peas are still there and cut out the plants when they are done to leave the corn in place? Or am I not thinking this through right? Thanks for any help you can give me.
