I'm going to plant my peas with okra. When the peas die off around the first part of July, the okra will be just getting going. Should work with corn. Peas have to have a trellis or other vertical assist right on top of them, have a look at the link to see my method. I plant the peas in two narrow rows at the joining of two squares with a nylon net trellis right between them.

Not a problem. The corn likely won't be high enough to shade fully by the time peas are done. Cut the peas at ground level, don't pull out roots.

Glenn's plan is right on. Also, you don't want to start your corn right on the avg. last frost date. You probably want to wait about 2 weeks after that date for the ground to heat up before starting the corn, especially if the peas are shading the ground a little. That will take a little longer.

If you plant the peas in a thin row, the corn can be interplanted while the peas are still going, and as Dan suggested, just cut the pea vines off at ground level (carefully) around the corn, and you are good to go. Once the peas are out of the way, the corn will probably experience a growth spurt, given how much more sun they will be receiving.

Thank you guys. I'm hoping I can get some good crops out of my garden. I want to do the whole garden this way, but my hubby will probably not want to, so I think instead of my 15 boxes I had planned, I will plant what I want in my boxes, let him plant what he wants the normal way and see who's does better, and then next year finish them out since my method will be better:) Thanks again!
