Today is 8 weeks!

I'm officially 8 weeks out from my average last frost date. I was planning on getting most of my seeds started this weekend, but warm weather saturday and a horrible sinus headache sunday kept me out of the seed starting area the whole weekend.

Today will be the day that I start most of my seedlings. I'll be starting the tomatoes, peppers, lots of flowers, and anything else I can think of that needs to be started. I'll have to check my list!

I'm going to try and work on getting the gaps between my boards on my raised bed smaller today too if it's not raining outside when I get home from work. I'm going to take some 1x2 furring strip and use it on the inside to close up the gaps with some deck screws.

After that, sometime later in the week, I will put down a layer of hay from a bale I had for halloween, then fill it with some left overs from last year and finish up with some compost from the city's facility. Depending on how that looks and feels I will then add some soil ammendments and fertilizers. Then the IRT 100 plastic will go down to start heating the soil. In a couple weeks I will plant out the broccoli and other cole crops.

It's getting closer! I can feel it!

Your excitement is contagious! I can't wait either. This coming weekend is 8 weeks for me. Very exciting indeed. My broccoli and brussels sprouts just came up yesterday and are under my grow lights as we speak. Tomatoes and peppers are starting this weekend (along with a few others). I'm still contemplating what to build my new beds with, though. I want to go with something that will stand up, like pressure treated wood, but the question marks as far as leaching into the soil are just too great. I'd also like to go with composite lumber (like Trex) or cedar, but both are cost prohibitive. Looks like I'll end up with good old Canadian spruce or fir. The only problem with that is I'll be replacing it after 5 years... Might not be a terrible thing, because we're moving within 5 years...

I just used plain old 2x6s. I don't think I'll be in this house long enough to warrant anything more expensive than that, and I can replace them 2 to 3 times for the same cost as cedar if I do happen to stay long enough for them to rot.

well..I planted 6 seeds of each of the following today:

jalapeno
basil
cilantro
beefsteak tomato
opalka tomato x 2
matt's wild cherry tomato x 3
joe parker numex chili
sugar baby watermelon
lil sweet cantaloupe
roma tomato
best boy hybrid tomato

I also planted 1 black krim tomato, and 5 super sweet 100s tomatoes.

In a month I will start cucumber, squash, pumpkin, and whatever else I'm missing.
