Square Foot Gardening

Starting my first SFG. My area is on edge of yard with lots of canadian thistle, morning glory and assorted weed problems. If I use mel's mix, how much problem will this be? Would like to create about a 10' barrier around garden by killing all weeds around it, but will not use chemicals to create barrier. Any ideas? thank-you

The best non-chemical way to destroy existing growth is to cover it with either a heavy-mil black plastic, or about 8 layers of newspaper topped by mulch to prevent in from blowing away. This process can take as little as 3 weeks with hot sun, but more is better. I use the newspaper for flower beds (with shredded cedar mulch) and pathways (with coarse woodchips).
