| Have a bulb onion that started growing green tops so I put it in some water. If I plant these three growing green tops in soil outside will it grow more bulb onions? Have never gardened before. If I plant these sprouting onions, will I just get green onions? I'm really trying for more bulb onions. |

| Hi summer_fashion - Are you speaking of actual onions that you purchase at the grocery store that are ready for eating? If so - you typically cannot grow these. Sure, you might get some green onions out of them - but they won't get any larger. They are considered in their "second year" and onions put up a flower stalk in their second year and make seed. |
