My earliest bush peas are going out in a week or so after I get the soil heated up, under hoops with frost protection.

Patriots Day seems to be the pea planting guideline for my area (zone 5).

I usually plant them in April as soon as the ground can be worked. If the soil is thawed out and not too wet. If it is too wet, the seeds will rot.

I'm in middle GA - I planted peas 2/21 - I just started seeing sprouts yesterday (at last!). My understanding is that peas won't sprout until your soil reaches a particular temperature. I think ~50. Georgia has a great site for tracking this info - I don't know if your state has such a thing?!

I planted my first set of peas today. It's going to be an especially warm weekend here. I will sow more in two week intervals. Both for an extended harvest and just in case these freeze. :) Last year I planted them a couple of weeks from now and wrote in my notes that I had with I had started them a few weeks earlier.

Lucky you! My soil is still frozen, covered with snow, or in a few spots, just a big mudpuddle. I'm also in Zone 6, but here in NY we're still recovering from around 3 feet of snow last week. I'm planning to plant mine in about 2 weeks, but in raised beds that are much warmer (and drier!) than the surrounding soil.
