Square Foot Gardening

SFG-Maintaining mineral availability

I am attempting a SFG this year. How can I grow in such a intensive manner without depleting minerals and other nutrients half way through the growing season. I am using a mix of dug up lawn soil, sterilized cow manure, potting soil, and worm casings.

Tomatoes are the greatest users of nutrients. They require extra calcium so I add crushed egg shells to the hole when I put them in the ground. Some recommend several tablespoons of powdered milk for extra nutrients. This prevents Blossom end rot at the end of the growing season.
Beans are nitrogen loving. Compost is very good for them.

Its important to know what your plants need to help them reach their peak performance.

Dressing the garden bed with that compost mix periodicly should help keep your plants thriving. Consider also adding the following for micro nutrient considerations:
Azomite
Sea90
