Square Foot Gardening

55 gallon drum cut in half long ways...

I would like to plant strawberries in it and am debating about the need to drill holes in the sides to plant into or just plant on the top open part and let the plants trail down.

I am thinking that I could plant about 8 to 10 plants per (spaced one per approx. 10 inches on each side) container without extra holes. Any thoughts?

What a neat idea...I would just plant in the top portion...just because it would be easier. It's going to look very nice!
