Melons and trellis vertical growing advise

I've got a 2' 6" x 23' east facing area that I'd like to dedicate to vertical growing of small melons. I'm going to use a 5 foot tall trellis to grow the vines up and out. My question is, how should I plant my melons in terms of frequency and or cluster?

Given the space, I feel that I can have 8 mounds of plants. How many plants per mound? Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydews. Will apx 3' be enough spacing?

Thank you,
