Going for gusto without peat moss?

New to the forum and wanted to say howdy from houston. This will be my first year gardening and my first attempt at SFG. I am going to plant 11 4X4 boxes at a height of 8 inches. They will not be sealed at the bottom of the boxes either. This is pretty ambitious considering Ive never gardened before. I do have many questions but Ill begin with the one below. I have seen this discussed several times but I havent seen any feedback from folks who have forgone peat moss and added more compost. In my case the compost mix I am purchasing includes rice hull.

Is it possible to start a garden on just compost and vermiculite? I am considering not adding the peat compost. Has anyone done this before and what were your results?

The following is the Mix I wanted to make.

1/3 Compost Mix (1/4 Mushroom Manure Compost, 1/4 ricehull compost, 1/4 humus Compost, 1/5 sand) (bought at Cowboys topsoil in Houston)

1/3 Horse Manure(composted with hay)

1/3 Vermiculite

Thanks in advance for all of your help. I am thinking of

starting a vlog so that I can receive constructive criticism and update people on my successes and failures.

All the best,

Wifey and I are very excited tostart a victory garden!
