This is my first year at sfg and I am only a week into planting so can't be of help however I will be watching to see the comments you receive. I, like you thought the gardens would all do well. I wish you luck.

First - the soil is still rather cold, so you shouldn't be expecting rampant growth. You don't say what you're growing in, only that what's growing in what we don't know anything about is growing slowly. ;o) What is the soil like & how did you make it? How/why did you make the bed - what is the soil like under the bed - how deep is the soil IN the bed? Have you fertilized? with what?

I used Mel's Mix the first year, with a bunch of vermiculite, peat moss and at least 4 types of compost. I built a raised bed on top of bare soil, with landscaping fabric at the bottom to keep stuff from growing into it, and to keep my soil 100% Mel's Mix.

My bed is on a bit of a slope. It's just over 6" deep at one end, and nearly a foot deep at the other.

i live a state north of u bet cold weather is a factor.
