new to square foot--depth advice needed

Rosemarino

I'm growing a square foot garden this spring; I used granite from my yard to make the bed, lined with plastic to prevent possible lead contamination from the ground (we live in an old home). I followed the instructions on the bags of compost that I purchased, saying that 4 bags would cover 24 square feet. My bed is 28 square feet, so I filled it in, but now the depth is still only around 5 or so inches. I know that will be enough to grow the lettuces and such that I'm growing in spring, but come summer will I need to have more depth? thanks!
