Chicken wire for critters

Hi all,
First year doing a Square Foot Garden. 3 beds, salad bed, deep bed, and tall bed. Salad bed was fully planted with pretty much only seedlings at this point.

Sunday morning I woke up to a lot of mix strewn about -- something had been digging. Can't tell if seeds will still sprout or if they were thrown asunder. Some seedlings didn't make it, most squares were fine. A couple of holes at very specific spots (the corners and middle).

Deep bed (carrots and radishes) was untouched as was the tall bed, which has only a few onions planted now.

Needless to say, I was pretty mad and realized I had to do something.

I have scrap wood and a roll of chicken wire, but man that was ugly. Could not get the shape from the book at all. It looks like a half done origami bird.

Any advice to building covers with chicken wire? My goal is to have the salad bed covered until the plants establish and cover the deep bed as the carrots and radishes develop.

I'm not planning on covering the tall bed (don't know how I could).

Anyway, advice, pics, etc appreciated!
Anthony
