That's pretty cool, but I don't know if it's cheaper or not. I didn't build a 4x4, so I can't compare. They sell pre-drilled wood with the grid and mix for 59.99 here, but that's because I live close to the SFG HQ. I guess if it saves you time, then that's worth something!

i know things can be a challenge for non handy people but ill try to give you a run down of my costs.lumber for a 2x12x4 sfg box (scrap box at menards eg customer cut offs .69/board 4 boards plus tax maybe $2.50)box of 3in. deck screws 5-6$,electric drill maybe 20$,square head,#2 screw bit 5-6$,1/8 inch drill bit 5-6$.point is the screws,driver,drill bit and the drill can make more than one box they are fixed costs.my 11 and 14 year old boys made my last 2 boxes while i planted some early seeds.its not hard.i agree you might have some costs associated with transportation but i figure if i have 5$ total invested in a 4x4 box im overestimating my cost a lil.i use cardboard for weed suppression so even if you had weed fabric for the bottom its still a really high cost for your box.i dont use mels mix but i wouldnt think you would have 25$ or more if you used the exact recipe.so if this helps you on what true value is its just what i have in it,maybe 20%using my mix and maybe #30 dollars using mels mix.hey enjoy the outdoors.
