Square Foot Gardening

Too much for one trellis?

I thought I'd ask some of our more seasoned SFGers before it got too late in the season about how much should go on one trellis. I currently have a 2' X 6' bed with the following layout:

TTWTT

TTWTT

T=Tomato

W=Sugarbaby Watermelon

I have already run a trellis down the middle of the box, and had intended on all the plants sharing one 5' X 6' trellis. Is this going to be too much foliage on one trellis? I want to make sure all my plants get enough sunshine and aren't choking each other out.

What are your experiences?

Rachel - You can make it work, but alot of training/pruning will be needed. I say go for it!

Since it is a 2 foot bed, I too say go for it. You can let the tomatoes sprawl out over the ground. I might suggest cages to provide added support.

Pruning would be in order to allow light in amongst all that foliage.
