| I bought some watermelon seeds with intentions of planting some inside the potager. Do they need special care when growing in raised beds, such as pruning etc?

You don't want to prune a vine. Except maybe a leaf or two. They take up a lot of room, 30sf easily. When they trail over the bed, guide the vines where you want them to go. Dan

Thanks Dan. I have never tried growing them in raised beds before. tammy

You can even get them to grow on a trellis like I do! Just provide supports for the growing fruit or it wont grow very big. I also only let two melons grow per vine just like my punkins. I use pantyhose and make a hammock! Canteloupes too, works great! I am also not growing a big type either, no 20lbers here.

Wow, I wondered if they could be grown on a trellis. Thanks a lot Tammy

Our small var of cantaloupe doesn't need support, nor does our butternut or small melon. We also save the nylon mesh bags from any onions we purchase or any other consumer product at the grocery. Part of the buying decision. Dan

Thanks Dan, I hadnt thought about those mesh bags. I guess now I can get some more things planted in the potager. Tammy
