Newbie! question on deer-repellent spray

Hello!

New to this forum, and new to SFG.

I've been planning my new beds for weeks, and can't wait!

Finally got Mel's book (the 1981 ver) and read it in a day.

My biggest concern is deer. I have a field behind the house with a herd of at least 13, and they are ruthless.

I've read many postings about sprays containing rotten eggs and hot pepper. Also, purchased sprays.

BUT, Mel warns against "overhead" watering on vegetables; saying it's best to keep foliage dry, to prevent various molds.

Is "deer spraying" not even enough moisture that I should be concerned about this? I get the impression that none of the solutions are effective unless sprayed right all over the plant.

I am also considering collecting urine and distributing it around the perimeter of the garden. Has anyone found that to be effective?

Thanks much!
