I agree. I think they're getting leggy, and could use more light.

gar - I went thru the same thing last year. In reality, there's just no way to get decent seedlings without some type of artificial light. I recommend not going to the "growing under lights" forum, because they will only confuse you. Most of us in the sfg forum that grow our own seedlings use fluorescent lights, for 16 hours/day - suspended no more than 2" above the plants. You can look at any of our setups, and easily construct your own.

I've tried to grow seedlings using what I thought was abundant and strong natural sunlight but it never worked out the way I hoped.

A friend of ours uses artificial lights like described above but he also sticks a couple grow bulbs here and there among the fluorescent bulbs. They are expensive so he only uses a few and rotates the seedlings.

He did add something new this year -- an oscillating fan to gentle blow across the seedlings once they were sprouted. Not blow-you-away wind, just a gentle breeze. It made a huge difference in how strong and firm the seedlings were as compared to the ones he grew last year.

Check out mine or Grannies. EG's will scare or impress the heck out of you.

And don't buy grow bulbs. Buy one kitchen bath and one daylight. They are close enough to grow lights and are cheap.

Oh, yes, those seedlings are reaching for the light and are getting leggy.
