Part of Mel's effort to make a mix available to those who don't want to search and mix all of the ingredients. They've been available in Utah for a few years now, and they're just beginning to spread to other states.

Agreed with Dan - that is a lot of money. We just filled my mom's bed for about $3/cf. And this was with not really shopping around very much ... we did pay $17 per 4cf bag of vermiculite. She bought peat at Lowes and compost at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware.

what kind of compost did you get at lowes...I was there today and could not determine which kind to use for Mels mix.

Our Lowe's had Timberline mushroom compost, Timberline manure compost, and Black Kow manure compost among others. As long as you get a variety of brands and a variety of sources (whatever you can find - manure, leaf, chicken, mushroom), you should be fine.

Dan, I agree it is a lot of mine but for those willing to pay for the convenience, it is an easy way to fill a bed.

Wow, I am so grateful that Mel did this. My husband helped me mix my first bed which was great. But it sure will be nice to just be able to toss this into a new bed, especially if timing is an issue and my husband isn't available. It's a great option.
